Planning Your Journey

Cardiff’s cycle network includes all the roads and streets in the city. Some are busier than others and the Cycle Map will help you to plan a route that is best for you. We have a number of officially signed routes (blue) which lead you through the quieter side streets and off road routes that avoid traffic altogether.

The growing number of traffic-free shared pedestrian and cycle routes (green) include:

  • The Rhymney Trail, which runs for 3.5km connecting the areas of Rhymney and Llanrumney in the east with Llanedyrn and Pentwyn in the west, via Rhymney Hill Gardens.
  • The Ely Trail, which links St Fagans to the International Sports Village in Cardiff Bay, where it connects to the Bay Trail.
  • The Bay Trail, a circular 10K trail which takes in the bay attractions via Pont y Werin and the barrage.
  • And of course the historic Taff Trail, which runs north to south along the banks of the river Taff, linking Cardiff Bay, the city centre, Bute Park and more. The Taff Trail, runs 89km in total ending eventually in the heart of Brecon.
