Taking your bike on a train

Many trains have limited capacity to carry bikes, but operators try to accommodate bikes as much as they can. Motor cycles cannot be carried at all. It’s worth remembering that, during engineering work, bikes can’t be carried on any replacement bus services.

On some Valleys and Cardiff local routes bicycles cannot be taken on trains during peak hours.

It’s strongly recommended that you make a reservation and do this as far in advance as possible. You should reserve a cycle space at the time of purchasing your ticket.

On some other services you don’t need to make a reservation. Space is allocated on a first come, first served basis.

Arriva Trains Wales publishes a leaflet which will provide more detailed information on carrying bikes on their trains. This can be downloaded from their website. On other services it is best to check with the individual operators.
