School Streets

Roads around school gates are often dominated by cars – many causing a danger to children and contributing to harmful pollution levels in the area.

We want to ensure that children in Cardiff can attend school as safely as possible and from 6th January 2020 we have been piloting a school street scheme to help reduce traffic around some school entrances during peak drop off and pick up times. During term time, motor vehicles are not permitted to drive in the streets around our pilot schools on weekdays between 8.30am to 9.15am and 2.45pm to 3.45pm.

Signs inform drivers of the restrictions at the entrance to the school Street and any unauthorised vehicles entering during restricted times will be issued with a Penalty Charge Notice. Residents can apply for a free permit, and blue badge holders always have access.
